SAMPLING & ANALYSIS FOR PROCESS CONTROL course
Designed for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Responsible for Their Own Laboratory Analysis
Sampling & Analysis for Process Control is a three day hands-on course that details the collection and analyzing of wastewater for process control and NPDES permitting. It is intended to help those operators who are responsible for both WWTP operations and laboratory analyses in their day-to-day duties. Process control decisions are only as good as the data they are based upon. NPDES reporting depends on accurate, legally defensible laboratory results. This course covers representative sampling, laboratory quality control, and lots of hands on analysis time. Each participant will have the opportunity to analyze actual wastewater samples and certified standards for:
- Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
- Total Solids (TS)
- Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)
- Alkalinity
- Hardness
- Fecal Coliforms (Membrane Filtration Method)
- Ortho-Phosphate
Additional laboratory analyses that will be discussed include chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. The course also looks at how to effectively apply laboratory data once it has been obtained and the relationships between different parameters. Specific examples include: calculating solids and nitrogen mass balances, estimating sludge yield, calculation of wasting rates, MCRT, and the F:M ratio. Lastly, the potential impacts of recycle streams are discussed. For example, how to calculate the new influent ammonia concentration and subsequent oxygen demand in the aeration basins when anaerobic digester supernatant is returned to a plant's headworks. We will test our skills at the end of each day by dividing into competitive teams for "Lab Jeopardy!".
Who Should Attend?
Industrial and municipal wastewater professionals involved in plant operation
and process control.
- Laboratory Personnel
- Persons in Charge of Process Control
- Operators Who Run Their Own Samples
- Persons preparing for Class A or B Operator Certification
An Added Bonus
Each attendee will be given the opportunity to bring samples from their
own facility and evaluate these samples themselves with instructor guidance.
Once your registration is confirmed, you will be given detailed instructions
to bring your samples to the class. Please call 303-825-5999 with any questions.
