Respirometry Consultation
Tetra Tech RTW utilizes respirometry
to troubleshoot the following areas of both domestic and industrical wastewater
treatment facilities:
- influent toxicity (identify individual streams
that alone or in combination create a toxic affect on the activated sludge
process, inhibiting treatment efficiency)
- determination of amount (flow rate) of
a contaminant that a given facility can treat without incurring a detrimental
impact *
- determine actual required detention time required
in aeration basin for complete stabilization of influent
* A detrimental impact can be due to either toxic affects
or due to high oxygen uptake. With a high oxygen uptake it is possible that
a facility would be oxygen limited, i.e. insufficient air available or applied
to the system, creating an unfavorable environment for a good activated sludge
process. This could result in poor settling and effluent discharge violations.
