The RTW Model for Softening Calculations, Version 1.0
The RTW Model for Softening Calculations, Version 1.0, is a spreadsheet-based tool designed to help users estimate the types of hardness, the doses required for softening, the water characteristics before and after recarbonation, and the amount of sludge resulting from the softening process.
- Helps engineers solve problems related to water hardness and softening processes
- Select the process used for softening (Lime-Soda Ash or Caustic soda-Soda ash)
- Presents the types of hardness in the system, both mathematically and graphically.
- Provides quick and accurate estimate of the required doses for softening for waters
- Varies the desired final water characteristics (calcium & magnesium ion concentrations, and pH)
- Estimates amount of CO2 required for recarbonation
- Estimates the amount of sludge produced as a result of the softening process
- Provides quick and case specific solution
- Incorporates the effect of calcium and magnesium complexes on the solubility of the solids calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide
- Eliminates or shortens lengthy experimental work involved in jar tests
